10 Ways To Celebrate Anti-Valentine's Day in LA

This year’s Valentine’s Day is being touted by many singles as Black Tuesday. But seriously, don’t let it get you down! With all the couples out enjoying their overpriced prix-fixe menus, you get the rest of the town to yourselves. So get out there and celebrate your freedom with new and old friends and drink specials. Step away from that pint of Haagen Daz and come out and play!

Love Stinks Karaoke at Neat
I’m hosting a fab anti-Valentine bash with cocktail ringmaster Aidan Demarest. If you’re looking for something cheap and easy to do this evening, this is it! No dress code, no cover. Bust out your best rendition of  Cee-Lo Green’s “Fuck You” in our karaoke contest in the hopes that you evade our St. Valentine’s Massacre gunfire (silly string) judging. Winners will get prizes like dinner for two at Papilles.

Don’t wanna sing? Indulge in Drunken Udder‘s boozy ice cream and knock back $6 cocktails — a dollar from each drink will be donated to Share Our Strength, a non-profit to end childhood hunger. The event starts at 8 but you can show up at 5:30pm to partake of the half-priced happy hour specials. It’s gonna be funnn! Also perfect for couples who don’t go in for that fancy prix fixe shiznit (like me and my bf!).

Here are the cocktails that will be on special:

  • Tipperary Cocktail: Jameson Irish Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, Green Chartreuse
  • Hearts on Fire:  Absolut Citron, Benedictine, Jalapeño, Lemoncello
  • Mandarin Mule: Absolut Mandarin served neat (neat style) with a sidecar of fresh ginger, fresh squeezed lime juice, Angostura Bitters, ginger beer float

Bar Noir at Maison 140′s Masquerade Themed Valentine’s Day Singles Event
This elegant singles mingle begins at 7:30pm at Bar Noir, in the lobby of Maison 140. Don a mask for some allure and mystery. Toast your future ex with cocktails poured from an ice sculpture and enjoy the complimentary light bites. Jazz musician Matthew Haze will be playing music by Lady Gaga to get you fine folks in the moooood.

Spitz on Valetinez
The thirsty and embittered can sip on anti-Valentine cocktails like the Bloody Valentine (a Bloody Mary with Jameson) and the Black Hearted B!#$% at this Little Tokyo restaurant. DJ Manboy will be spinning “bitter beats” from 7pm to midnight.

Calling All Singles Soiree at Rush Street
The Culver City party restaurant is counting on your meeting your Valentine at their soiree which takes place on the Saturday (February 11) before Black Tuesday. There will be two floors of dancing so you’re bound to run into someone there. Break out your dance moves while DJ AC spins from 10pm to close.

Midnight in Paris Prom at Big Bar
OK, technically this isn’t an anti-Valentine event and has lovey-dovey written all over it what with its horse-drawn carriage for the prom King and Queen, 17-foot-high Eiffel Tower and “specialty love potions.” But it also sounds too fun to pass up. Big Bar has gone all out to emulate the City of L’Amour with its French singers and even caricature artists so you feel like you’re walking along the Seine. Dress as Amelie or Napoleon and commemorate the evening at the prom photo setup. There will be lots to drink — custom champagne cocktails, cocktail punches and more. Event goes from 7 to midnight.

Treats

Tony’s Darts Away Cupcake and Beer Pairings: Kiss sorrow good-bye after indulging in TDA’s brown sugar cinnamon cupcake with Get Up Offa That Brown Ale.

City Tavern’s Chocolate Board: Nothing cheers up a broken heart like chocolate. And pair that with beer and you’ll be over the moon. This chocolate board ($16 with flight, $12 without) comes with dark chocolate mousse, chocolate beer truffles and mini brownies with bourbon caramel and is paired with Craftsman Edgar Ale, Port Brewing Serpent Stout and Ballast Point Indra Kunindra.

Proof Bakery’s Coffee Lovers Box: This is probably supposed to be for two people but I can totally eat the six truffles it comes with by myself. You also get an 8-oz bag of Handsome Coffee and chocolate-cherry biscotti to enjoy with it. Be mine, indeed. Proof will accept pre-orders til this Sunday.

Hotel Wilshire’s “Break-up and Move On” Package: Dumped before V Day? The bastard! Hotel Wilshire created a special package for dumpees. It comes with two specialty cocktails and an appetizer at Roof on Wilshire, a copy of the book “It’s Not Me, It’s You” and a brownie sundae or a pint of Haagen Daaz to enjoy in your room. AND if you booked the room with a friend and you meet someone you like at the roof bar, you can book an extra room for half price after 10pm. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. $285 for guest room and $335 for a junior suite.

Huntington Spa at Langham Pasadena’s Single & Sensational Package: When you’re down and out it’s important to treat yourself right. This $250 spa package will be just the ticket. Indulge in a 60-minute Huntington Signature Massage, a Walk in the Clouds Pedicure and a Spa Manicure, all while sipping champagne. You’ll also get a bottle of Langham Pink OPI nail polish to take home.
