Is it still summer or is it now fall? With this crazy weather, who can tell? In any case, this weekend is going to be jampacked with lots of yum times for indoors and outdoors. Too bad I’ll be out of town for Portland Cocktail Week! Well, have fun holding down the fort with these LA weekend events!

Simon Ford and Dushan Zaric Guest Bartend at Sadie
If you missed them at their stint on Monday at Harvard & Stone, you’re in luck. Debonair cocktail expert Simon Ford and Dushan Zaric of NY’s Employees Only bar are taking charge of the Parlour at Sadie as they celebrate the launch of The 86 Company. Talk about cocktail magicians. They’re a joy to watch so make sure you get a good seat at the bar.

Brewery Art Walk Fall 2012
Yup, it’s already that time of year again, the second Brewery ArtWalk. Only twice a year does the huge art complex open the doors of all its studios to the public. With over 100 participating resident artists, there will be lots to see (and buy). Make sure to stop by Hollis Bulleit’s studio (yup, THAT Bulleit) where she’ll be selling her pins, jewelry and, yes, her famous headdresses!

  • 11am-6pm. The Brewery Artist Lofts, 2100 N Main Street, Los Angeles (map).

Sunday, October 21

LA Magazine’s 2012 Food Event
Argh. This is one of my most favorite L.A. food events and I’m gonna miss it. But don’t YOU miss it. Taking place on the Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu Hills, Los Angeles Magazine’s Food Event 2012 is one of the most beautiful food festivals. This one will showcase the likes of Ludo Lefebvre (LudoBites), Caroline Styne (AOC, Tavern) and bartender Matthew Biancaniello (Hollywood Roosevelt’s Library Bar)

  • 2-5pm. Tickets: $115-$130. Saddlerock Ranch, 31727 Mulholland Highway, Malibu (map).

Silverlake Wine Tasting with Piedmont and Mozza
Yup, THAT Mozza will be doing up the food at this Sunday wine tasting which features Piedmont wine, the best from Northern Italian regions. So you better make your reservations now because it sounds like it’s going to be a good one. Featured wines include Paitin Serra Barbaresco 2008 and Vietti Castiglione Barolo 2008.

  • 3pm. $20. Silverlake Wine, 2395 Silver Lake Boulevard, Silver Lake (map). Reservations: (323) 662-9024.

The Beer Chicks’ Book Release Party at Beer Belly
Beer Chicks Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune will be signing and selling copies of their new book, The Naked Brewer: Fearless Homebrewing, Tips, Tricks & Rule-Breaking Recipes as well as their homebrew kits at Beer Belly. And it ain’t a party without booze so there will be beer cocktails, beers on tap as well as a homebrew from the girls: Trip 13 Honey Chamomile Blonde. For bites, chef Wes Lieberher is doing up a little sumthin sumthin. And KCRW’s Evan Kleiman will stop by at 7pm. A portion of all proceeds from sales of the Honey Blonde are going to KCRW.

  • 6-9pm. Beer Belly, 532 S Western Avenue, Koreatown (map). (213) 387-2337.

Black Tie Chess Night at Spare Room
Yes, such a weird event, but that makes it compelling, no? Break out your tux or ball gown, it’s going to be a fancy evening of cut-throat chess tournaments and Russian Standard cocktails, which include Czar’s Commission (vodka, Bonal Gentian Quina, orange bitters) and Deep Blue (chamomile and mint-infused vodka, lemon, champagne). The winner of the whole  she-bang scores a caviar prize pack of course.

  • 9pm. Free. The Spare Room at Hollywood Roosevelt, 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood (map). (323) 769-7296.
