Sunny Spot’s Brunch Is Back With $10 Mix-and-Match Bottomless Cocktails

Sunny Spot cocktail Platano Suave by Caroline on Crack

The brunch is back! Roy Choi’s Sunny Spot in Venice stopped its weekend brunch during the cold seasons because apparently people wimp out when the marine layer swoops in. (Raises hand.) But now Chef Choi and crew relaunched everyone’s favorite day drinking opportunity. Your favorite brunch dishes have returned, like the Two-Fisted Cheeseburger and the Egg Plate with Pork Belly, but more importantly so have fave potent potables like the Dry Harbour (pot still rum, lime, absinthe, habanero pineapple shrub) and Death in the DR (Domincan rum, lime, honey, absinthe, champagne).

Bonus is the bottomless brunch cocktail deal. There are four bottomless drinking options available for just $10 — mimosa, cava, Bloody Mary and rum punch. And the easily bored can happily mix them up so it’s not like you’re stuck drinking only mimosas or cava all day. Because who wants to be pigeonholed like that? Feel like moving on from the savory Mary to the sweeter rum punch? Do it and you won’t be charged extra!

The only caveats are that this is only with the purchase of a main plate, there is no sharing cocktails and last call is at 3:30pm. AND, I’m adding this in, make sure you have a DD, or just do some drunken shopping on Abbot Kinney. If four drink options aren’t enough for you, check out the cocktails ($11 each) on the flipside of the brunch menu. Here are some of my favorites.

Sunny Spot Day Drinking Options

Sunny Spot cocktail Corpus Novo by Caroline on Crack

Corpus Novo: gin, curacao, lemon, Cocchi Americano, anisette. My favorite cocktail of the bunch. A happy medium of something light and satisfyingly potent.

Sunny Spot cocktail Platano Suave by Caroline on Crack

Platano Suave: Dominican rum, plantain, lime juice, honey. What a fun drink, not only for that clever garnish but that hint of banana.

Sunny Spot cocktail Permanent Vacation by Caroline on Crack

Permanent Vacation: Peychaud’s, tequila, hibiscus, lemon, Carpano, ginger beer. For those who don’t want something too boozy for brunch, this drink is perfect. Really light and kinda reminds me of a Tom Collins with the hibiscus, bitters and lemon.

Sunny Spot cocktail Transatlantic by Caroline on Crack

Transatlantic: rye, Amaro Meletti, walnut liqueur. For those looking to just jump right into it, order up this asskicker. Thankfully, and I don’t say this often, it’s served on the rocks. But word of warning, after this it’ll be sleepy time.

Sunny Spot cocktail Ramos Gin Fizz by Caroline on Crack

When I asked Sunny Spot barman Brian Butler to do up his favorite brunch drink, he made me a Ramos Gin Fizz. Even though it isn’t on the printed cocktail menu, you can still order it up. Any great bar/restaurant will always have this hair-of-the-dog classic at the ready.

Ohhh, that was a “Permanent Vacation.” I was trying to figure out what the pretty drink that was floating around was! The platano suave sounds great too. Nice getting to catch up with you! Let’s definitely get the girls together soon 🙂

Great to catch up with you, too! And, yes, let’s take the girls out for ice cream at Scoops. Well, we’ll eat the ice cream and they can just watch. 🙂
